Don't Forget the Playbook!

My daughter got blindsided and was overcome by an opponent slightly larger than her on the soccer field. She picked herself up but I could tell she was upset that her teammates were nowhere to be found. She looked at her coach but she said nothing. I’ve never seen her coach on the field with her team during the game. During practice, the team perfects their moves, they dominate the ball and connect with each other. The coach trains the team to follow a playbook. On game day their job is to apply what they’ve learned.

The Christian’s spiritual playbook is God's Word--the Bible. God is pleased when we set our hearts to follow His greatest commandment, to love one another. He commands us to love each other even when we don't receive love in return. When we want to become angry because our friends or co-workers show favoritism to others and neglect us, God leads us back on the right path. He gives us power to love them in spite of what they’ve done. He tells us in a calming way "Don't forget the playbook. Remember that I loved you in spite of your weaknesses.” Forgiving others who have hurt us is a way we can demonstrate God’s love.

Read John 13:31-35
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” - Psalm 119:109
