Imperfection is the New Black - What I learned from 2 Corinthians 12:9

Vera Musgrove and Apollo Levine National Dance Day Shazzy Fitness

The past 30 days has been a whirlwind for us. The 3 of us - myself, Vera and Apollo - lead what many would refer to as insanely busy lives.

Apollo and Vera both have very active careers outside of Shazzy Fitness, and it is only by God's grace that we are always somehow able to find a way to get our schedules in sync when necessary.

The hectic pace has been accelerated with the birth of our new service, Instructor Certification Training. We have had an overwhelming number of requests from people around the country asking how they can bring Shazzy Fitness to their community. Thus, I have been operating on very little sleep for many weeks -as have they - working to put together a quality instructor experience.

Surprisingly, my biggest challenge through all of this has been to remind myself that I can't do it all and that it's really ok if the class isn't "perfect".

For someone who has lived and breathed perfectionism for several decades, that's a hard pill to swallow.

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

I want this class to be the best experience ever, the best class ever, the best workout ever ... you know what I mean? I want every slide to be perfect, the manual to be perfect, the sound system - everything... perfect.

But I am reminded that His grace is sufficient.  And it's actually in weakness that His greatness shines through. Ironically it's His power that is made perfect when I can rest in my weakness.

Getting back to this whole class thing.

On Saturday we will launch our very first instructor training class.  I am nervous, excited, terrified, thrilled and blessed - all at the same time.  We won't have the answer to every question, we may mess up a dance move or have to clarify a statement or two.

It most certainly will not be perfect.

But I guarantee that you will not find a more loving, giving, joyful bunch of hip-hop choreographers. We are so very honored that so many people would trust us with their time and money, and join us in what we believe is our mission and ministry - to share the joy of fitness through faith & fellowship.

A little digression here.

This is a video that we did in honor of National Dance Day. We filmed it while prepping for our instructor training class last month.

Much to my dismay, there was a technical glitch that resulted in audio static for the first 3 seconds of the video. You'll see it's a very simple video, not much technology behind it and definitely done with a small budget and basic equipment.

However, I must admit that it's one of the best short videos I think we've ever done.

I know I'm biased, but I honestly think that the love that we have for each other and our customers...it just grabs your heart as soon as you start watching it. I have debated for days now whether we should share it - because after all... sigh... it isn't perfect.

In the end, I finally concluded that the world won't end if we publish an imperfect video and quite possibly someone else may be inspired to take a chance and do something new - if they know that it's ok not to be perfect in everything you do.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do - leave me message on Facebook and let me know :)

Be well & Be Blessed.
