Out With The Old, In With The Old: The 7 Daniel Fast Food You’re Bound To Love!

As the new year rolls around, and after an often very busy schedule we realize despite it being one of the most spiritual times of the year, we haven’t always had enough time to devote ourselves to our faith.

The Daniel Fast can help us reconnect do just that by abstaining from alcohol, meat, and dairy amongst other things. A scary list of things to avoid! But to make it easier, here is a list of 7 Daniel Fast friendly food you’re bound to love!

cauliflowerCauliflower Pizza:Avoiding bread can seem very scary, but there are work-arounds; cauliflower pizza being near the top of the list. Through the magic of a food processor, and flax seeds, you can make healthy vegetable packed pizzas. It’s a great one to do with the kids!

Courgetti and Lentil Bolognese:Another gluten-free work-around! Replace the meat in a Bolognese with lentils which soak up flavor beautifully, and are protein-packed, then use a spiralizer on a courgette to make the courgetti. A flavorsome and colorful dinner sorted!

honeyGranola: Making some granola snack bars is a key to make sure you’re getting all the energy you need. Pack them full of honey, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and macadamia, cashew, and almond nuts, for a protein filled treat!

Three Bean Chili: Kidney beans, black beans, and pinto beans, thrown together with tomatoes, celery, squash, onion, all in one pot, served with brown rice. Hearty and filling, the perfect antidote to the cold outside. Great for leftovers too and add 1/4 avocado on top for an extra serving of healthy fats!

tomato soupVegetable Soups:It’s January so it’s cold outside and you need something thick and warming. Now is the time to have every kind of vegetable soup imaginable – tomato, minestrone, black bean, lentil. A great meal to cook up and have on those long dark nights!

Loaded Baked Potato:This versatile dish is quick and easy, and great for leftovers. If you make a bean chili the night before, then bake a potato, or better yet, a sweet potato and pile the chili. A meal that takes zero prep, and full of good stuff!

Bananas:I cannot make a list of food without adding the humble banana. An under the radar superfood packed full of potassium and magnesium, a perfect ‘fast food’ in every sense. It’s ideal for the 3PM energy dip, or post workout for the boost you need when you need it.

With those dishes, the whole family is going to be happy. It can also give you the chance to be inventive with your cooking, and try out things I’m sure will end up being family favorites. Good luck!
