Spiritual Spring Cleaning!

spring cleaning floorsI look forward to spring cleaning! I love putting my hands to work to dust, polish, and dump unnecessary items, because I enjoy having a clean home. But spring cleaning does more than rid my home of dust and items that accumulate during the winter months. Psychologically, it rejuvenates my mind. I’m free of the past and released to do things that are relevant to my life. If you don’t look forward to spring cleaning you’ll tend to put it off. Here’s why:

  1. Spring cleaning can be an arduous task. There are dos and don’ts of how to clean your home, recommended products to use and products to avoid.
  2. Cleaning requires time and organization. If you’re in a hurry, you’ll rush through the process and skip areas because they’ll appear to be clean.
  3. After cleaning comes inspection. If getting rid of the dirt is tough, you’ll be back mopping, scrubbing, and buffing until the item or area’s appearance meets your satisfaction.

You have pride knowing that you took control to release dirt so that something can become useful again. Technology has even made it convenient for us have self-cleaning ovens and self-cleaning windows. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everything was self-cleaning?

Since I’m a lover of the outdoors, I love spending time maintaining the area around my home. I love when passersby admire my manicured lawn with its various perennials. I want people to appreciate the picturesque exterior of the place where I live more than the cluttered rooms on the inside! Inside, in my heart that is, I know I need a cleansing.

Spiritually, our heavenly Father tells us we’re clean through His Word. By confessing His Word and walking in Truth, we free ourselves from things that are not pleasing to Him. We need His Word because we live in a world filled with darkness. You may have been able to shake off trouble yesterday, but watch out, more trouble is on the way, and you’ll need strength from His Word to withstand the enemy’s attacks!

spiritual spring cleaning with the WordIn addition to spring cleaning, home cleaning experts suggest that a regular cleaning is needed. Our mirrors are among the items that should get cleaned regularly. A dirty mirror can blur our vision of what we actually look like. The Word of God is our spiritual mirror, and can show us what the Lord thinks of us. We need a polish of God’s Word every day.

You felt the Spirit of the Lord and beamed with joy when you were in His presence, but family, work and life in general dampened your joy and made the light of your soul lose some of its luster. Daily prayer and reading God’s Word helps others to see God’s glory (His shine) in you. By praying, you are communicating with Him. By reading His Word you are letting your mind be transformed and your faith to be strengthened. If you feel as though your heart needs a spring cleaning, or that your worship or love for God needs to be transformed, be of good cheer. You can be made new!
