Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2
August 22nd is the day when we can put on our wings and pretend to be angels. It’s Be an Angel Day, which was founded by Rev. Jayne Howard Feldman in 1993. Feldman, who serves as an interfaith minister and public speaker, found the motivation while taking photographs of angel monuments in Maryland. She noticed that one of the pictures depicted a guardian angel with a child by its side.
This gave her an unexpected insight. She felt that just like angels we too are here to serve God and the way to do that is through service to each other. And she founded Be an Angel Day.
On this day people can become angels by engaging in random acts of kindness. The objective is for people to do something nice or be kind or help someone who needs it. It can be an emotional or a physical or a financial help. It doesn’t have to be a grand act. It can be anything you do to reach out to someone else and serve them in any way possible. For often times when we serve others there is a domino effect. The person you serve will be inspired to serve others and the process continues.
We at Shazzy Fitness have put together a list of ways by which you can be an angel today and be part of the process:
- Pick up litter that you come across.
- Drive courteously and let someone through.
- Let someone go ahead of you at the grocery store.
- Visit an old age home.
- Say hello to random people.
- Write thank you notes to people who matter to you.
- Brighten someone’s day with flowers.
- Buy school supplies for a teacher.
- Tip generously.
Be an angel today and make a difference in someone's life.
